We can finally say we’ve woken up in south-east Asia. And then spent the day in a western style mall >sigh< but hotel rather lax on the tourist information (empty brochure holders) so after endless wandering through humid streets we gave up and caught the MRT to the most touristy sounding destination.
Mid wander we were starving & stumbled upon a cafe in Lavender Street selling Hong Kong pastries including the infamous egg tart. They also had coffee sweet and strong enough to kickstart a heart patient and what I think is a Singapore 'thing' – iced Milo.
Feel guilty about the mall but if we're honest, it's where the locals are.
We did find Food Republic in Vivo mall, which took us back in time to Qing Dynasty China. Devastated to discover it is a chain (them's the perils of hanging out in malls, I suppose).
